Biography
I am a long time Yellowknifer who moved to the community in 2001 after completing a Child and Youth Care Degree at the University of Victoria. I immediately found work at Diavik Diamond Mine, which increased my sense of community in the north. Within a few months, I left the mine to work in a behavioural treatment program for young children and later at a local Women's Shelter. Since then my time was divided between facilitating the DoEdaezhe Leadership and Resiliency Program and working in Child and Family Services where I developed case management, crisis intervention, and community liaison experience.
I am a graduate of the Master of Counselling program from the University of Lethbridge and a Professional Member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, possessing a Canadian Certified Counsellor (C.C.C) designation. I also have a Bachelor of Social Work Degree and am a Registered Social Worker licensed to practice in the Northwest Territories and the province of British Columbia.
I have had the opportunity to work with clients from ages 5-75, in the areas of self-esteem, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, and trauma. I bring a variety of skills to my profession as a counsellor, including my calm demeanor, ability hold space for others, and my genuineness. I can be contacted at denisebailey@theedge.ca
